Koffee Kracht

Koffee Kracht is a design that acts as a part of a project called “Culture Shock”, in which the design goal was to create designs that encourage interaction with a culture that I have very little information on. It was given as a way to improve research skill while treading the line of cultural engagement versus cultural appropriation. My chosen culture was the Netherlands, in which I approached the project with a very modern approach to design. Some of my favorite designs throughout Dutch design come from modernism, such as works of Studio Dunbar. This style pushed me to make a very clean, simple, and minimalistic design that lightly approaches Dutch culture with both the Tulip logo and the Orange color palette.

Ruskineer’s Root Beer

Ruskineer’s Root Beer was a project focused on putting all of us outside of our comfort zone. We were given an art style at random, in my case I got the Arts and Crafts Movement. With the style selected, we had to design a 4-pack of root beer. This was extremely hard for me initially, with this project taking a ton of research and revision to get the final design right. That said, this project was a huge eye-opener for me, with my future projects being much more open to try new things.

Welcome to the Mystic Menagerie

Mystic Menagerie is my approach to the Secret Society project that focused on exclusive branding. In this project, we had to design an invitation set that created feelings of exclusivity and higher status. My approach to this project was to design it in a Victorian style while using a gold linework to help make the piece stand out. In terms of subject matter, I chose to do a society of fortune tellers, and thus based the invitations on Tarot Cards.

Metagame Monthly

Metagame Monthly is my second publication design, with this piece being a trade journal that focused on the competitive sport of Magic the Gathering. I based the piece on iterating on the multiple formats and changes that were making massive changes to the game as a whole. This piece is focused on being a very typographic piece, and therefore would function as one of my most difficult pieces altogether solely based on how much typography I had to lay out for this project.
